#7 Rain or Shine
Rain or shine, we and our Dream Center Church friends still meet up and go out. However, a torrential downpour can dampen our plans a bit. Wet tables of rain-soaked clothes and goods do not invite the people we want to encourage. A cookout, perhaps, if under a canopy, may draw a rainy-day crowd, but not wet clothes. Had my canopy not broken the week before, we may have been able to pull it off. But that does not appear to have been the Lord’s plan for us yesterday. So, what did we do on that rainy Saturday morning? We visited friends at their homes.
After picking our friends Greg and Joanna up, they and Shawn and I visited our friend C., whom we met a few years ago when he lived in the community we regularly serve. He now has his own little apartment and always welcomes us into his home. It was fun catching up with him. Then, the four of us delivered a fan we promised a couple at our regular community whose air conditioning has been out for weeks.
We found out from this couple about two families with young children in dire need of kids’ clothes. One of these families is homeless and the other in a shelter. We were able to provide contact information to hopefully help get the homeless family off the streets and into a safe place. We also got to pray with one of the roommates about a difficult situation that person is going through, as well. But wow! We would have missed these blessed opportunities had it not been raining!
So, while we only talked with a few people yesterday, it went just how it was meant to. We got to encourage our friend C., provide a fan for a household without A/C, pray over a difficult situation, and connect a friend with someone who may be able to help the family he knows that has no place to stay.
That is just another one of the amazing things God does. We can think, “Oh, no! We’re going to be rained out!” But that never stops God from working, and He uses the rain He sends to lead us in the direction He wants us to go.
So, what are the needs for this week? Children’s clothes and shoes! Sexes and sizes are a girl 3T-4T, three girls 4T, two girls 5T, one girl 6-8, a boy 2T-3T, a boy 4T, and a boy size 7-8 with shoe size around 1. After church today, I hit a local thrift store for clothes for these eleven children, but I can only get so much. We also got a request from another of the locations we go to, but thanks to a generous donation of 2T girls’ clothes from a member of our church, that need is covered!
If you have any nice kids’ clothes in the sizes mentioned that you can donate this week, or if you can make it to a thrift store to find some, I will gladly pick them up from you before Friday evening! For anything you buy, just give me the receipt with the clothes, and I will make sure you get reimbursed, too! And please also pray for these families to get the help they need!
Thank you for your support!
