#9 A Beautiful Day
What a joy to be back at our favorite community! It was so wonderful to see some of our friends there and encourage them again! And it was a double blessing to have a family in our church join us, as well! Thank you so much Michael, Jessica, and kids!! You not only blessed and encouraged our downtown friends with your service and bags of homemade trail mix, your presence meant a lot to Shawn and me, as well!
It was also wonderful to see Ms. H. again and give her another costume jewelry necklace with matching earrings. She was so thrilled to receive them! And Ms. C. came by in her wheelchair shortly after we arrived. As I hugged her and said how glad I was to see her, she said she missed us and was afraid we were not coming back! I assured her that, as long as the Lord allows, we are coming back!
Thanks to generous donations, we had a lot to bring, as well. Additional thanks to another family in our church who gave a couple of girls bikes that made the day of those who received them. Almost everything we brought found a new home.
One of our friends in this community had taken in a couple of abandoned kittens she found not even old enough to be weaned. So, we were able to bring her some kitten supplies. But what was cool was that when we arrived, she was with a couple of ladies from another organization walking around the neighborhood handing out bags of daily need items. These ladies asked what we were doing, and after I explained, they asked if they could volunteer with us. Of course, I said yes! In fact, I told them it would be an answered prayer, because Shawn and I love this community and have been praying for more volunteers to serve here with us. I look forward to seeing where God takes that. Your prayers about it are welcomed!
As we were packing up, a lady in a wheelchair came by thankful for the snack we were able to offer. I had a bag in the car with some food I planned to give to a gentleman who often comes by asking if we have food. Not seeing him that day or knowing which apartment was his, so we could take it to him, I was able to give her the bag instead. That happens regularly where I plan to give something to someone, but really, God had me set it aside for someone else. But I will still bring more food to give to that man, in case we see him next week.
Then, another lady came up as we were packing up, at which point we had little left to give out. I asked if there was anything we could bring for her next week. She was very appreciative and gave me her clothing and shoe sizes.
Then today, oh my goodness! More families in my church blessed us with a few bags of clothes and some toys! I am humbled by and grateful for the way my church family has supported Robin Good and our efforts to bless our neighbors downtown.
So, this week’s shopping list includes shoes - a women’s size 9, and a men’s size 10; 5-year-old boy clothes; 12month old girls clothes (which I have already, thanks to a previous donation); size 10-12 women’s clothes; size 14-16 girl’s clothes; and a ladies’ shoulder bag. If you would like to contribute any of these items, I will gladly pick them up from you this week. And if we receive multiple donations of any of these, that is perfectly fine! They will surely meet another need
Please know your donations and support are SO VERY appreciated!
